Walk 2 Live ™

Walk 2 Live ™ The charity's biggest annual event takes place each May. The Walk 2 Live campaign aims to create the largest mass sponsored walk in the world and is being organised to raise money for wildlife conservation. The walk has been created especially for schools, although parents and adults are more than welcome to join in.

The next event will be taking place on Friday May 21st 2010, with tens of thousands of people from all over the UK all walking at the same time, at schools and other locations around the country, in an attempt to create a new Guinness World Record™.

Unlike other sponsored walks, schools have the option of selecting where some of the money they raise goes. Schools can even use the event to raise money for their own use, maybe for computer or sports equipment, or possibly even to help with raising money to build additional classrooms, or extra facilities.

The rules for the walk are simple. All participants must be walking at the same time and on the same day in order to create an official Guinness™ World Record. The walk begins at 2pm and although there is no specific distance or time limit, the key to the event's success is that everyone taking part is walking at the same time. Along with supporting a good cause, the walk aims to promote exercise and will encourage children to become more active, reinforcing the message that walking is good for you. Most schools will be hold their own event and children will either be walking around their own school grounds, or for some, around their village or town. It is hoped that other organisations will join in and other, larger venues will be included, where several schools or other groups can also take part in the walk. Each school/group will co-ordinate their own event and verify the number of participants taking part.

Walk 2 Live ™

The walk is easy to organise and is great fun for all those taking part. Being part of a genuine World Record attempt, walking for the benefit of endangered wildlife and raising money for a worthwhile cause, guarantee this will be a most enjoyable and exciting day.

We have put together a comprehensive Walk Information Pack, which has everything you need to take part in the walk. The pack includes:

  • Walk rules and general guidance
  • Entry/completion forms
  • A colourful poster to promote the event
  • Photocopyable sponsor forms
  • A sample letter for parents.

A structured scheme of learning with lesson plans that provide cross-curricular activities will soon be available for schools to download from this website. Placing an emphasis on creativity, conservation and citizenship, we have created an imaginative and informative series of worksheets, with tips and advice on promoting wildlife conservation, together with suggested activities as well as links to other resources. We hope the education information pack will prove to be a useful tool for teachers and parents alike.
