Walk 2 Live 2010 Date Announced

Walk 2 Live 2010 Date Announced

The first major event in aid of the Trust will be taking place in May 2010.

To promote awareness and to help raise the £500,000 needed to develop the first of its' wildlife conservancies, the charity is planning to hold the largest mass sponsored walk ever held and hopefully create a new world record for the most people walking in an organised event at the same time.

The Walk will be taking place at 2.15pm on Friday 21st May 2010, with tens of thousands of people walking at the same time, at many locations all over the UK. The walk is aimed primarily at children, with hundreds of primary schools taking part all over the country. The criteria for the walk is that all schools walk at the same time and on the same day in order to create a new world record. The walk begins at 2pm on the day and although there is no specific distance or time limit, the key to the event's success is that everyone taking part is walking at 2.15pm. Why is this time so important? In order to create a new world record and to substantiate that claim, all participants must be walking at the same time, so that the numbers can be verified and officially recognised as an official world record.

The majority of schools will be holding their own event and children will either be walking around their own school grounds, or for some, around their village or town. It is hoped that other organisations will take part and other, larger venues will be incorporated, where groups of schools can also take part in the walk.

Onny C of E Primary School from Shropshire, have been selected as the lead school and will be assisting with the launch of the event. As the lead school, they will play an important part in designing the walk mascots, plus, on the day of the event, there will be a live satellite link up with the Trust's sponsored school in Kenya.
